Becoming a chef can be both an extremely rewarding and satisfying career. If you are passionate about cooking, you will probably know from an early age. You may like to pursue a professional career in cooking you just need to know where to start. There are a wide range of chef jobs in Ireland. Many a head chef will tell you that they started their career washing pots and pans in kitchens. This is where they got the chef bug as they say. From here you may progress to demi chef de partie and then onto to chef de partie. You will then know if this is the career for you. Depending on the type of establishment you may then progress to junior sous chef. After that you are into the senior positions such as sous chef and then head chef or executive head chef. Of course, with these senior roles will also come al lot of responsibility such as budgets and forecasting. So, while your passion may still be cooking you may need to spend one day a week doing office work.
